#BeautifulBrownSkinSeries
Being a Filipina with very brown skin, I have had struggles with appreciating my body and skin. It has been a journey of self-love and acceptance. As I grow older, I want to advocate the issues of colorism and self-love.
Beautiful Brown Skin
Graphic Illustration Poster, Adobe Illustrator, Spring 2019
Started from a class project, my goal was to create an illustration that will reflect an online article of my choice. I chose an article that discussed the stigmatism of darker skin in asian countries and how people are battling the idea.
I was inspired by my own feelings on the topic and how POC are wanting to "rip out" the idea of glorifying white skin from society.
On my Instagram, I posted a video of this piece reflecting on social media's look of brown skin.
Black, Brown, & You
Adobe Photoshop, Instagram Post
These illustrations are my thoughts and what should be always said to anyone despite the color of their skin. As part of the #BeautifulBrownSkinSeries, I wanted to emphasize the beauty of the skin and that we are all worthy and loved.
Plugged vs. Unplug
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Printed at 44" x 57"
These series of posters were inspired by the technology that is in my life. With technology's advancements, it is becoming more intertwined with our daily lives that sometimes we need to unplug. This student project was exhibited in the upstairs gallery of Dominican University of California's Alemany Library in April 2019.
Graphics for Research
Graphic Illustrations, Adobe Illustrator 2017-2020
Commissioned by a Psychology Teacher from Dominican University of CA. I designed his ideas of a graphic for his research.
Through one-on-one meetings, we discussed his ideas of the graphics including colors, texts, and shapes. The project started from a Circle Graph that reflected the spectrum of gender identities. His research discussed Gender Identity Projections in Couple Therapy. Throughout the journey of creating these graphics, we also made many changes to accurately show the research for the readers. Currently, I am creating a display board for the Circle Graph for presentations.
Who are you Wearing?
Poster, Adobe Illustrator, Spring 2018
This poster's assignment was to create a poster that reflected a global issue of my choosing. I chose to base this poster on the topic of "Fast Fashion" and the workers behind the clothes that we buy through the industry. I imagined my poster to be printed on a cloth which is implied by the wrinkled cloth texture. This poster was also temporary displayed in Oakland.
Double Rainbow Graphic Design Internship
2019
I was fortunate to have a job at Double Rainbow Cafe in San Rafael, CA as their graphic design intern and their cafe employee.
I worked there as an employee during the nights after class, while also being their graphic designer who assisted the owner with social media posts and event posters. I redesigned their old paper menu and their old website with new designs.
Although my position was very new to the owners, this was a great first experience of working independently and with the owners.
